DECATUR -- The Decatur High School symphonic band, under the direction of Kristin Wages, completed two more feats that earned them two additional honors.

The Symphonic Band traveled to Nevada, Mo., to compete in the 2014 Nevada Music Festival April 12. The band performed three pieces in front of a set of judges consisting of high school and college band directors.

Each band was judged on a I-V (1-5) scale with one being the highest rating. The Decatur Symphonic band received a II or "outstanding" rating from the judges. The band received a division II trophy from the event.

The band had two weeks to prepare for its next event, a trip to Branson, Mo., to perform at the Dick Clark American Bandstand Theater to open for the "Legends in Concert" show April 26.

Just before the show, the band was presented with a large trophy with an inscription that reads, "Presented to Decatur High School Symphonic Band from Decatur, Ark., for an outstanding performance at the 'Legends In Concert' show, Branson, Missouri."

The band's final concert will be May 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Decatur High School. The concert is free to the public.
