GRAVETTE -- Gravette's Community Garden was a beehive of activity Saturday, with garden plots being laid out, tillers humming as they prepared the soil for planting, rows being marked off and rough spots being smoothed for the upcoming growing season. Some crops, planted earlier, were showing signs of life, particularly potatoes and onions.

The gardens are located on the west side of Highway 59 across from Arvest Bank. Water is provided by the city to help nurture crops when summer dry weather arrives. The garden plots are free but a portion of the produce from each plot is to be donated to charity, which gives gardeners the opportunity to share the results of their labor.

The garden plots, 12' x12' or 12' x 24', are still available for persons interested in farming their own little truck-patch.

Applications and rules can be picked up at Gravette Arvest Bank or by emailing [email protected]. For more information or answers to questions, contact Susan McPherson, 787-5250; Allyson Ransom, 787-3971, or Miriam at 787-5032.

Individuals or clubs may wish to participate, and a family garden plot would enable parents and children to work together as a fun, learning experience on a small scale.
