Lions Golf Classic held May 10

GRAVETTE -- One-hundred, twenty-four golfers teed up last Saturday in the annual Gravette Lions Golf Classic held at Scotsdale Golf Course in Bella Vista. The annual event is sponsored by the Gravette Boosters.

According to John Edwards, school board member and one of the organizers of the event, "Everyone had a lot of fun," even if the weather was a little warm.

Edwards had praise for the more than 25 students from junior high who assisted. High school students also offered their muscles and assistance at various places in the field, as well as setting up chairs and doing other tasks in preparation for the tournament.

The Gravette Lion mascot was also present and was available for pictures.

Results for the Classic included:

Men's Division

Flight A: First Place (59), Bob Clinard, Tim Galean, Jeremiah Allen, Aaron Owens; Flight B: Second Place (59), Ron Myers, Geo Osterberger, Lawrence Aytes, Don Weber; Third Place (59) Dawn Tajchman, Dan Harryman, Jim Hatcher, Jim Owens.

Flight B: First Place (67), John Crain, Roy Baker, Don Teague, Charles Beveridge; Second Place (67), Randy Smith, Richard Page, Joe Layton, Cory Briggs; Third Place (67), Richard Johnson, Bill Harris, Steve Eastwood, Robert Prazak.

Flight C: First Place (69), James Thomas, Joe Bryant, Doug Keeth, Wes Spears; Second Place (70), Jeff Hendren, Joe Martinez, Jason Loyd, Quenton Pannel; Third Place (70), Fred Albitz, Ted Givens, Donn Velo, Bruce Griffin.

Women's Division

First Place in the women's division went to Ann Millard, Sharon Drake and Connie Salser with a 75. They were unopposed in this year's classic.

Mixed Division Results

Flight A: First Place (65), Mark Deihl, Julie Deihl, Rachael Deihl, Bryan Johnson; Second Place (66), Paul Renn, Tanya Renn, Tyler Morgenthaler, Leigh Morgenthaler; Third Place (66), James Moeller, Gerri Moeller, Earl Lehman, Pat Lehman.

In the Closest to the Pin competition Gerri Moeller won with 8'1/2". Kenny Sikich took first place in the men's: 5' 2 1/2".

Longest Drive winner was Julie Deihl in the women's division; Jerry Barron's drive was the longest among the men.
