Lightning strikes gas line and causes power outage

GRAVETTE -- The Gravette Fire Department responded to a call at 15438 Ridge Road east of Gravette about 6 p.m. Monday after lightning struck a gas line at the home.

The owner, Anthony Ashlock, said he noticed flashes coming from his stove before he was able to shut off the LP service line. No extensive damage was noted. Maysville and Decatur fire departments were called for mutual aid but were returned to service.

Power to the Gravette High School was interrupted Monday afternoon about 4 p.m., according to Richard Carver, transportation director, forcing rescheduling of "Scholarship Night." Several Carroll Electric customers were also reported without power for some time until service was restored about 7:30 p.m. Carroll Electric was not able to immediately provide the cause or the number of customers affected by the outage which was corrected by the service department.
