Local athletes fare well at state track on May 6

WESTSIDE -- Schools in the Eagle Observer coverage area fared well in the 4A State Track Meet held in Heber Springs on May 6, with local athletes bringing home top honors in the state competition.

Zach Ellis, a junior from Gentry High School, finished first in the shot put with a throw of 136 feet, 11 inches in the event.

Mallory Morris, a Gentry sophomore, took second in the 800-meter run, finishing only 11 hundredths of a second behind the first-place runner, Akeia Joyner of Maumelle, with a time of 2 minutes, 26.47 seconds in the race.

In the high jump, it was senior Terence Pierce of Gravette who finished third with his jump of 6 feet, 3 inches.

Logan Foster and Abbey Leonard of Gravette finished in seventh in the triple jump and shot put, respectively.

Kylee Davis, a Gravette junior, finished eighth in both the long jump and the triple jump.

And a good many of these athletes have opportunity to come back again and compete for the gold in upcoming seasons.
