SILOAM SPRINGS -- Eighty-nine Gentry seniors were on the list to receive their high school diplomas on Friday evening in the Bill George Arena at John Brown University.

Following the singing of the National Anthem by Katalina Hurt and the invocation by Brandon Brigance, Gentry senior and class president Kristen Flesner welcomed parents and families, as well as fellow students, to the commencement ceremonies.

Brae Harper, Gentry High School principal, introduced the honor graduates, who were presented with special medals by parents or family members.

Cindy Coronado delivered the salutatorian's address, and Katie Howard, the valedictorian speech. Kristen Flesner sang "Read All About It."

Kevin Johnston, Gentry's mayor, was the featured speaker. He spoke from his own personal experience about decisions and changes in his life since moving to Gentry from California, attending Gentry schools and his graduation from Gentry High School.

Then came the moment the senior class had been waiting for -- the presentation of graduates by Randy Barrett, Gentry superintendent of schools, and, as Brae Harper read each name, the presentation of diplomas by members of the Gentry School Board.

And, following a final singing of the Gentry High School alma mater and a prayerful benediction by Gentry senior Josh Cypert, caps flew into the air and the graduates celebrated their accomplishments with family members and friends.
