Gentry junior high boys win district meet

GRAVETTE --While Gravette's junior high track teams finished in third and fourth places at the April 22 4A-1 Junior High Conference meet in Gravette, Gentry boys brought home another district championship and the Gentry girls finished in fifth place.

Highlights in the meet included the running of Gravette freshman Alex Fink, who took first in all the men's dash events, plus the high jump and long jump. Cole Cripps of Gentry took first in the pole vault, far surpassing his competitors, Gentry freshman Austin Morris paced himself and took first in two long distance events for Gentry, and Gentry eighth grader Hannah Boss threw the discus almost 88 feet to take first by a wide margin.

BOYS

In the 100-meter dash, Alex Fink, freshman of Gravette, took first with a time of 12.29 seconds. Dylan Ansaldo, freshman of Gentry, took fifth, finishing in 12.63 seconds.

In the 200, Fink again came in first, with a time of 24.88. Ansaldo finished in fourth, at 25.74.

In the 400, it was Fink in first again, at 53.94. Gunner Berger, Gravette eighth grader, and Roberto Barrios, Gravette seventh grader, finished in fourth and fifth with times of 57.90 and 58.11.

Austin Morris, Gentry freshman, took first in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:19.23. He was followed by Gravette freshman Austin Moon, 2:21.45. Danny Delapp, Gravette freshman finished fifth, with a time of 2:27.64.

In the 1600-meter, Morris and Moon took the top two spots, with times of 5:06.87 and 5:09.39. Dayton Wishon, Gravette eighth grader, finished in the number-five spot, with a time of 5:24.50.

Cole Cripps, Gentry freshman, finished in fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 47.93.

Gravette's boys took second in the 4x400 relay, with a time of 4:00.21. Gentry finished third, 4:04.55.

Gravette took first in the 4x800 relay, with a time of 9:42.91.

In the high jump. Fink took first for Gravette, clearing the bar at 5 feet, 5 inches. Cole Cripps took third, clearing 5 feet, 2 inches.

Gentry took the first four spots in the pole vault competition. Cole Cripps cleared 11 feet, 6 inches; Sonny Xiong, Gentry eighth grader, 9 feet; Khang Yang, Gentry eighth grader, 8 feet, 6 inches; and Dylan Ansaldo, Gentry freshman, 8 feet. Gravette eighth grader, Mason Martinez, took fifth with his vault of 8 feet.

In long jump, Fink cleared 17 feet, 10 inches, for a first-place finish. Cripps was second with 17 feet, 6.5 inches. Dylan Ansaldo took fourth with his jump of 17 feet.

Cripps took first in the triple jump, clearing a distance of 37 feet, 9.5 inches.

Chance Cooper, a Gentry eighth grader, threw the shot 42 feet, .05 inches, for a third-place finish.

Seth Franzen, Gentry eighth grader, threw the discus 112 feet, 8 inches, to bring home a second-place finish.

GIRLS

On the girls' side, there were few local winners in the running events. Tiffany May, Gravette eighth grader, took fourth in the 800-meter run, finishing the race in 3:00.01.

In the 1600-meter run, Sally Bird, Gravette seventh grader, and Brooke Brasel, Gravette eighth grader, took the number four and five spots, finishing the race in 6:53.49 and 6:56.40, respectively.

Alicia Long, Gravette eighth grader, took fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing in 58.24.

Gravette took fourth in the 4x100 relay, with Gentry fifth. Both teams moved down a spot in the 4x400-meter relay. But Gravette' girls finished second in the 4x800, with a time of 12:01.66.

Kya DeZurik, Gentry eighth grader took second in the women's pole vault, clearing 7 feet.

Chasity Fatuma, Gentry eighth grader, finished second in the triple jump, clearing 29 feet. Haley Betz, Gravette eighth grader finished fourth, clearing 28 feet.

In the women's shot put, Fatuma of Gentry was first, throwing the ball 34 feet, 10 inches. Hannah Ball, also a Gentry eighth grader, came in second with her throw of 32 feet, 11 inches. Gravette eighth grader Jaki Chalk finished third, throwing 31 feet.

Hannah Ball of Gentry hurled the discus 87 feet, 9 inches, 22 feet farther than the second-place discus thrower from Pea Ridge. Jaki Chalk of Gravette finished the event in fourth place with a throw of 63 feet, 3 inches.
