Springtown council members hear progress reports

SPRINGTOWN -- Council members were updated on a variety of town issues at the May 9 council meeting, according to draft minutes of the meeting.

Mayor Paul Lemke reported that some roadwork has been done to repair erosion to the town's streets caused by rain. He also reported that he may again pursue trying to get the speed limit lowered on Arkansas Highway 12 within the town's corporate limits.

Lemke said he is still waiting to get a response to the town's appeal regarding money for the Aubrey Long Road bridge project which the Federal Emergency Management Agency has asked be returned.

Springtown's annual town barbecue is set for Saturday, June 7, from 3 to 7 p.m. Chicken dinners will be for sale, as well as a hotdog meal and a kid's hotdog meal. The town's park committee is working on banners and flyers to advertise the event.

Carla Wasson, Springtown's attorney, reported that she is still working with Benton County's attorney to finalize the paperwork for an agreement to receive county help with enforcing the town's animal control ordinance.

Lemke said he is still following up on plans for a water garden for the new park area by the Aubrey Long Road bridge.

Lemke said the stakes have been set for the town's walking trail, starting from the Aubrey Long Road bridge park area and going toward Bredehoeft Road, with the trail being mowed.
