Maysville P.O. Hours

Martha Tucker, clerk at the Maysville Post Office, reminds patrons that hours at the post office have not been reduced. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. It is also open Saturdays from 8:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. to serve customers.

Summer Meals for Children

Gentry School District is again participating in the Seamless Summer program and will provide free breakfasts and lunches to children 18 and under and low-cost meals for adults. The school district will offer the meals at the Gentry Middle School/High School cafeteria this summer. Breakfasts will be served between 7:30 and 9 a.m., lunches from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Monday through Friday, June 9 through August 1 (except that there will be no meals the week of June 30 to July 4). Adults can eat for $3.10 per meal in June and $3.25 per meal in July.

Assessment Deadline

Benton County Assessor's Office reminds residents that the deadline to assess is approaching and, in order to avoid a 10 percent penalty, residents need to assess before May 31.

Farmers' Market Coupons

Farmers' Market Coupon signup/distribution date is Tuesday, June 10, at the Gentry Senior Activity Center from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. A photo identification and proof of household income is required.

GED Prep Classes

Free summer GED prep classes and testing will be held at the Gravette Public Library through June 30. Classes are from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the library, 407 Charlotte St. S.E., in Gravette. Classes are open enrollment. Students may start any time and finish when they are ready. Call 986-6911 or simply show up to enroll in class.

Maysville Yard Sale

The Maysville Extension Homemakers Club is sponsoring the annual community yard sale on May 31 at the Maysville Community Building. The club is renting booths for $10. Call Gwen Singleton at 479-291-4520 to reserve a booth.

Coffee with the Mayor

Gravette Mayor Byron Warren will be available for an evening of "Coffee with Mayor Warren," from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the Gravette Public Library. All citizens are invited to come by for an informal chat with him to express their concerns, ask questions or offer suggestions for city improvements. Coffee and cookies will be served. Cosponsors are Gravette Public Library, Grumpy's Coffee and the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center. It is hoped this will be the first of several such gatherings.

Berean Ministries VBS

Berean Ministries has scheduled Vacation Bible School for June 9-13 from 9 a.m. to noon. More information will be released soon.

Gravette Town Hall Meeting

A Gravette town hall meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at the Gravette Civic Center, just west of the Gravette Public Library on Charlotte Street S.E. All citizens are encouraged to attend and use this open forum to provide input as to what direction they want the City of Gravette to go, projects they would like to see pursued, improvements needed and goals they would like to see accomplished.

Gentry All School Alumni

The Gentry All School Alumni banquet will be held Aug. 30 in the Gentry Middle/High School cafeteria. The banquet is for anyone who has attended Gentry Schools. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Cost per meal is $25. Funds are used to provide scholarships for graduating seniors. Gravette Farmers' Market

The Gravette Farmers' Market is open for its seventh season, just off Arkansas Highway 72, in Old Town Park. It will be open every Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. until November. The market will feature locally-grown produce, plants, creative and artistic craft items and wholesome baked goods. USDA WIC vouchers, Senior Nutrition Program vouchers, Double-the-Money senior coupons and tokens will be accepted. Gentry Farmers' Market

The 2014 Gentry Farmers' Market will be held at the Main Street Pavilion, 500 East Main Street, with Melissa Graef as the director. Those with produce may set up under the pavilion in the 11 by 14 foot space. The Pavilion, which will provide shelter from the rain and sun, is at the corner of Arkansas Highway 59 and Main Street. There will be a small fee for booth space. Those interested may talk to Melissa at the Chicken Coop Flea Market or call for details, 871-1052. Hiwasse Farmers' Market

A farmers' market opened in Hiwasse on the first Saturday in May and will continue to be open there throughout the summer months. The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday at the vacant lot, near Not Too Shabby, in Hiwasse. Items featured will be local produce and craft items. Book and Bake Sale

Talbot Library and Museum in Colcord, Okla., will host its annual Book and Bake Sale during the Old Settlers' Day festivities on Saturday, June 7. The museum plans to host musicians, the Colcord Rodeo Queen contestants, and will offer homemade hamburger dinners for sale. There will be many events throughout town all day -- including a parade, hog fry, car show, crafts and music. The Colcord Rodeo will be held nightly on June 6 and 7 at the rodeo grounds north of town More information is available at www.talbotlibrary.org.

NWA Riding Club

NWA Riding Club playdays have begun at the Luca Don Equestrian Center, located 4 miles west of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 12. Sign-up time is 5:30 p.m., with activities beginning promptly at 6. Playday rodeo competitions will be held every other Saturday. Events include pole bending, flags, barrels and speed race. Kids in the Woods

A "Kids in the Woods Festival" is being planned at the Flint Creek Nature Area, just off Dawn Hill Road East near Gentry. The free one-day (from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) nature camp will be held on different dates for children of different age groups -- ages 7-8, July 21; 9-10, July 22; and 11-12, July 23. The camp will emphasize education in natural history and environmental studies. Activities will include bird watching, nature hikes, tree appreciation and identification, bug kickin' (in Flint Creek) and fishing lessons in the new community pond on the property. Men's Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly men's fellowship gathering at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. All men are welcome to come for food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

Church Singing

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist in Sulphur Springs holds a singing service every fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 6:30 p.m. A potluck dinner follows. For more information, call Jheri Roberts, the pastor, at 752-7082.

Gravette Lions Club

Gravette Lions Club meets at 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month at the Billy V. Hall Wellness and Activity Center on Limekiln Road in Gravette. New members are welcome.

Gentry Lions Club

Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the McKee Community Room, in the Gentry Public Library, on Main Street at N. Collins Ave. New members and visitors are welcome.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW Meetings

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102 and right on Tilly's Hill Road.
