GRAVETTE -- The Gravette High School Parent-Teacher Organization is inviting all to attend the 2014 -2015 Mister and Miss GHS Pageant to be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, in the GHS Performing Arts Center. In addition to the naming of Mister and Miss GHS, Mister and Miss Lion Pride (congeniality) and Mister and Miss Lion's Choice (audience favorite by monetary vote) titles will be determined.

Tickets can be purchased at the door -- which opens at 1:15 p.m. for $5 for adults over 18 and $3 for those 18 and under. Children under 3 are admitted free.

Pre-pageant entertainment begins at 1:30 p.m. and includes vocal performances by Asthon Yarbrough, current Miss GHS and the current Miss Arkansas Outstanding Teen, and a special performance by the Gravette Orange and Black Pee Wee Cheerleaders.

Eleven Miss and six Mister GHS students will make up this year's pageant contest. Contestants are nominated by a teacher/sponsor of a GHS club, department, or organization.

Miss GHS contestants and their GHS club or department sponsors are: Taylor Bradley -- Football, Torie Dixon -- Science Dept., Micayla Hendricks -- Yearbook, Kinsley Hurtt -- FCCLA, Destiny Laymon -- Science Dept., Miranda Mendoza -- Book Club, Megan McAfee -- Golf and Softball, Shannon McKnight -- Forensics, Alexis Serverson -- Drama, Kara Smith -- DECA, Kaylea Turner -- Band.

Mister GHS contestants and their GHS sponsors are: Avery Burrow -- Baseball, Hunter Grimes -- Football, James Isabell -- Student Council, Carson King -- Quiz Bowl and ACE, Mathew Stelting -- Football, Austin White -- Drama.

A very experienced panel of outside pageant judges will be selecting this year's Mister and Miss GHS winner. All contestants will be evaluated on an interview, outfit of choice, and formal wear segments of the competition.

Winners of the Mister and Miss GHS title will each receive a $350 scholarship to be issued to the accredited college or university of their choice. First runners up will receive a $100 scholarship and second runners up will receive a $50 scholarship. All contestants will receive a gift bag of merchandise and special offers which is valued at $150 retail.

The Mister and Miss Lion Pride titles are congeniality awards. Secret ballots cast by each of the Mister and Miss GHS contestants will determine the winners of these prestigious awards. In addition to this prestigious title, winners will receive a sash and special framed certificate.

Each year the Mister and Miss Lion's Choice (audience favorite) award is determined by monetary vote. Each dollar represents one vote. Funds collected through this service project are used to support the PTO Scholarship Programs and other PTO sponsored events which benefit GHS students and teachers. The winners of these two awards will receive a cash prize, sash and special framed certificate. Contestants will make their own unique donation box, to help them collect their monetary votes. These collection boxes will be on display and available through pageant intermission to provide the audience the opportunity to cast their monetary vote for their favorite contestant(s).

The community is encouraged to show support of their contestant(s) by placing monetary votes in the applicable contestant's collection box. Checks should be made payable to GHS PTO.

"Sincere thanks are due to those who have dedicated countless hours to make this year's pageant a success," said Kim Yarbrough, current Gravette High School Parent-Teacher Organization President. "Please come out and support our school's amazing contestants and escorts."
