DECATUR -- The Decatur Cross Country team traveled to Hot Springs Nov. 8 to compete in the Arkansas state cross country meet. This would be their last meet of the 2014 season for the six-man team. The competition was fierce but the end result was a fourth place overall finish and two members making the all-state team.

Decatur finished very close behind West Side Greer's Ferry (first), Trinity Christian (second), and Caddo Hills (third). Decatur placed ahead of conference rivals Eureka Springs (fifth) and Johnson County Westside (ninth).

"We came really, really close to winning the thing," Shane Holland, cross country coach, said. "It was a very good meet for us overall."

"I had two boys that got all-state by finishing in the top 10 percent," Holland said. "Marck Guadarrama finished third overall and Luis Ocampo was 10th."

With the close of the cross country season, many of the team members will turn their attention to other Decatur sports. But when the summer returns in 2015, the Decatur cross country team will hit the hills and valleys running in hopes of bringing home next year's state title.

Team members overall finish out of 106 competitors: Marck Guadarrama -- 3, Luis Ocampo -- 10, Tyler Riddle -- 28, Leng Lee -- 34, Wyatt Bingham -- 61, Ryan Shaffer -- 69.
