Highfill traffic stop nets theft arrests

HIGHFILL -- Good police work by a Highfill police officer on a routine traffic stop resulted in the recovery of stolen property and the arrest of two Iowa residents, according to a Nov. 6 release from Highfill Police Chief Gregory B. Webb.

On Monday, Nov. 3, Officer Logan Roddy stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic violation on Highway 12 near Peterson Road. During the stop, Roddy, according to the release, obtained consent to search the vehicle and officers found 21 different sets of identifications, including drivers licenses, social security cards and debit cards, all from the Fort Dodge, Iowa area; a 22 rifle, a high-end digital camera and a laptop. The search also revealed several pieces of methamphetamine paraphernalia.

According to the release, the above items were taken as evidence and the vehicle's occupants, Clayton Curtis Brown, 23, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and a passenger, Tausha Nicole Wyatt, 29, of Goldfield, Iowa, were arrested and booked into the Benton County Jail on the following charges:

Brown -- three traffic violations, 27 counts of misdemeanor theft of property, seven counts of felony theft of property and two counts of felony possession of drug paraphernalia;

Wyatt -- 27 counts of misdemeanor theft of property, seven counts of felony theft of property and two counts of felony possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Benton County Jail website lists traffic violations for Brown as driving left of center, no proof of vehicle ownership and no proof of insurance. The website also lists a misdemeanor failure to appear out of the Rogers Court for Wyatt, as well as a Ft. Dodge, Iowa, address.

According to the release, both Brown and Wyatt were being held on a $30,000 bond.

The Highfill Police Department is working closely with Fort Dodge, Iowa, Police to see that the stolen property is returned, the release states.
