Hat and Glove Giveaway

The Midway Pentecostal Church of Decatur is hosting a hat and glove giveaway on Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Decatur Depot. Due to the generosity of several sponsors, the church has enough hat and glove combinations to fit 600 children and adults. The giveaway is open to any resident of Decatur or the surrounding area. Jasper Birthday Reception

A birthday reception is planned for Lowess Jasper, on the occasion of her 88th birthday, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Arvest Bank Room in Gravette. Cards are requested, but no gifts, please.

Highfill Food Pantry

Highfill United Methodist Church will be opening a food pantry at 15000 W. Arkansas Highway 12 in Highfill. The pantry will be open the second Wednesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m., beginning Nov. 12. A photo ID and a bill with proof of local address will be required. The pantry is accepting donations of canned and boxed food at that time. Outdated food items cannot be accepted.

Food Pantry

The food pantry at Harvest Baptist Church in Gravette will be closed the last week of November for the Thanksgiving holiday. The pantry, located in the church facility south of Gravette, is open weekly on Thursday afternoons.

Gravette Middle School Thanksgiving Lunch

The deadline for parents to turn in notices they are attending the Parent Student Thanksgiving Lunch at Gravette Middle School is Nov. 14. The lunch will be held on Nov. 25 during the two lunch periods at the school, so parents should check with their students to see when their lunch period is. Also, please bring the correct change -- $3.25 -- for each parent lunch.

Quilting Class

A class for area quilters and crafters will be held this Saturday, Nov. 15, at 12:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving St., S.W., in Gravette. Instruction will be given on a quilt block and a "show and tell" session will be held. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share.

Gentry Community

Thanksgiving

The Gentry Ministerial Alliance invites everyone to join together at 6 p.m., Nov. 23, at the Gentry Assembly of God Church, 700 East Main St., for the annual Community-wide Thanksgiving Service. This will be a time of corporate worship and fellowship for the residents of Gentry and the surrounding area. Special music will be provided by several area churches and Richard Hogan, pastor of the Gentry Christian Church, will bring the message. Refreshments will be served following the service. Thanksgiving Service

The Pioneer Church of God (Holiness) will be holding a special service to celebrate Thanksgiving on Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. The teen choir will help prepare hearts for this time of giving thanks to God for His blessings. Planning Meeting

A community choir planning meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Bank of Gravett Community Room for anyone interested in singing on the float in the Gravette Christmas Light Parade on Dec. 6. Mason Valley

Thanksgiving Dinner

A community Thanksgiving dinner will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Mason Valley Baptist Church Activity Center, located half way between Vaughn and Highfill on Arkansas Highway 12. The church will provide the meat, rolls and drinks. There will be Gospel singing after dinner. Everyone is invited to come and bring a favorite vegetable or dessert.

Christmas Tea

First Baptist Church of Gentry will have its Christmas Tea on Dec. 6, at 9:30 a.m., in the fellowship hall. Ladies are invited to attend the event. Tickets are $3. All profits will go to Lottie Moon. Women's Christian Temperance Union Meeting

There will be a meeting of the Northwest Arkansas Woman's Christian Temperance Union on Friday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. This is a meeting of the local chapter of the WCTU, which is a worldwide organization that was organized by women who were concerned about the destructive power of alcohol and the problems it was causing their families and society. The purpose of the meeting is to educate about the harm that alcohol causes and to work against government policy that encourages alcohol and drug use. The meeting will be held in the home of one of the members, at 10896 Northfork Drive, just off Mount Olive Drive between Decatur and Gravette. 2014 Annual Quilt Fair

The annual Quilt Fair will be held Nov. 14 through 21 in the McKee Community Room at the Gentry Public Library. The display will be open during the regular library hours. The awards are sponsored by McKee Foods Corporation. The event is coordinated by Janie Parks, 479-936-1498.

Community Cookbook Plans

The English as a Second Language Program at the Gravette schools, with the help of the EAST class, is creating an "Exploring Our Heritage" cookbook. The proceeds of the cookbook will go toward funding field trips for the ESL students. Students are asking anyone interested to submit recipes reflecting their cultural roots and heritage or family recipes that have been handed down for generations. Recipes may be given to a secretary at any of the Gravette schools, requesting they be sent to Meghan Walker, or emailed to [email protected]. Please include your name, recipe name, a complete list of ingredients and measurements and step by step directions. You may also include a story or memory of why it is significant. You may submit multiple recipes but all should be submitted by Monday, Nov. 17.

History Book Stories/Orders Deadline Extended

The Gentry History Book Committee has extended the deadline for both family stories and book purchases to Dec. 15. Please send family stories and/or money for the history books to Gentry Chamber of Commerce History Book Committee, P.O. Box 642, Gentry, AR 72734. Both stories and book orders are still needed. The book is expected to be published and distributed in late spring of 2015. Only those who pre-order a book will be guaranteed to receive one. Books are $55 each, plus $7 shipping if the book needs to be mailed. Annual Home Christmas Decorating Contest

The Gentry Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Annual Home Christmas Decorating Contest this year. The winning yard will get $100 in Gentry Christmas Bucks and the runner up will get $50 in Gentry Christmas Bucks. The judging is planned for the evening of Dec. 7. The judges will drive around Gentry (at night) to judge the displays. To be sure your house is judged, please call the Chamber office at 479-736-2358 and leave the yard's street address. Winners will receive signs to be posted in their yards.

Annual Christmas Parade

The annual Christmas Parade will be Dec. 13, beginning at 6:30 p.m. There is no entry fee or preregistration. Floats entries should be at the Nelson Feed Company (formerly Curran Feed Company) at 5:30 p.m. on the evening of Dec. 13 for lineup. There will be $100 in Gentry Bucks awards for the best theme, best lighting and best music. There will be $200 in Gentry Bucks awarded for the best overall. Christmas with Santa

Kiddos can tell Santa their wishes and get a treat bag from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the Gentry Chamber of Commerce Building, located at 212 East Main Street (the 1904 bank building). Parents are welcomed and encouraged to bring cameras and phones for pictures.

Fresh Roll, Cinnamon

Roll Sale

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, located at 1870 Limekiln Road in Gravette, is taking orders through Monday, Nov. 24, for fresh rolls and cinnamon rolls. Patrons are encouraged to order now for Thanksgiving dinner. Fresh rolls are available for $5 a dozen and cinnamon rolls for $1 each. Call 787-5950 to order. Orders may be picked up at the Senior Activity Center on Wednesday, Nov. 26, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Men's Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly men's fellowship gathering at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. All men are welcome to come for food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

Mason Valley Baptist

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Mason Valley Baptist Church Activity Center are held at 7 p.m. the second Friday of each month. The church is located on Arkansas Highway 12 midway between Highfill and Vaughn.

Church Singing

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist in Sulphur Springs holds a singing service every fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 6:30 p.m. A potluck dinner follows. For more information, call Jheri Roberts, the pastor, at 752-7082.

Gravette Lions Club

Gravette Lions Club meets at 1 p.m. on the first and the third Tuesday of every month at the Billy V. Hall Wellness and Activity Center on Limekiln Road in Gravette. Lunch is available for anyone interested. New members are welcome.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gentry Lions Club

Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the McKee Community Room, in the Gentry Public Library, on Main Street at N. Collins Ave. New members and visitors are welcome.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW Meetings

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102 and right on Tilly's Hill Road.
