Cox announces resignation from Springtown position, effective midnight Dec. 31

SPRINGTOWN -- Jan Cox, treasurer and recorder for the town of Springtown, announced her resignation from the post, effective at the close of 2014, at the town's Nov. 14 council meeting, according to draft minutes.

Paul Lemke, Springtown's mayor, read her letter of resignation and expressed his and the council's appreciation for Cox's 6 1/2 years of service to the town in the position.

Lemke also reported that a pallet of salt is being purchased, as well as a tarp for the sand pile, in anticipation of the coming winter weather. He said the town is still waiting to hear regarding its second appeal concerning the requested return of money received from FEMA for repair to the old low-water bridge on Aubrey Long Road which has since been replaced.

Lemke said paperwork for a grant request to build a walking trail in the town has been submitted and word on whether the town will receive the grant should come by February of 2015.

A proposed 2015 budget was presented to the council for consideration, with a vote planned for the December meeting.

Lemke said he had been approached by some residents who own a total of five properties adjoining the town's west city limit who have expressed a desire to have their property annexed into the town. He said he expects to receive the completed annexation request paperwork from the property owners within the next few weeks and will follow up on their request.
