Fall festival set for Sunday afternoon n Chamber plans full weekend of activities

GENTRY -- This weekend promises to be a busy one in Gentry. In addition to the annual fall festival in the park on Sunday afternoon, weekend events include Pickin' Time on 59 and a cruise night on Saturday.

Pickin' Time on 59 runs from Thursday through Saturday from Siloam Springs to Sulphur Springs and features garage and yard sales of antiques, collectibles and much, much more. Permits normally required for such sales have been waived in Gentry and Gravette.

A cruise night is planned along Main Street in Gentry on the evening of Saturday. The event draws old cars, new cars, trucks, motorcycles and hot rods from around the region. The event is sponsored by the Gentry Volunteer Fire Department.

The annual Gentry United Way-Gentry Chamber of Commerce fall festival is set for noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday in Gentry City Park. The afternoon will feature live music, mutton bustin', a car show and lots of fun. The event is to help raise funds for the Gentry United Way, which benefits numerous non-profit organization in the city.

Other upcoming events in Gentry include:

• Coffee with the Congressman. Rep. Steve Womack will be at the Gentry Public Library from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

• Trick or Treat on Main Street is set for 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31.

• The annual Gentry quilt fair will be held in November, with exact dates yet to be announced.

• An afternoon with Santa is set for 3:30 to 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Gentry Chamber Building.

• The annual Gentry Christmas Parade will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13. The theme this year is "Christmas in My Hometown."

The chamber is also soliciting photographs and stories for its 120-year Gentry History Book. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 31. The history books can be purchased for the pre-press price of $65 by sending a book order and check to the Gentry Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 642, Gentry, AR 72734.
