GENTRY -- Seven Gentry High School students qualified for the Northwest Arkansas all-region choir at tryouts held Oct. 4.

Gentry High School varsity singer choir members Mallory Morris, Audra Weathers, Caitlyn Cox, Alex Savage and Kyla Riggs scored high enough as altos to make the regional choir. Morris and Weathers also scored high enough to try out for the all-state choir in February. Caitlyn Cox, Savage and Kyla Riggs made the women's chorus. Krystin Cox and Ashlyn Riggs are alternates. They competed against 900 students on Oct. 4.

The above-named Gentry choir students will represent Gentry and Northwest Arkansas at the all-region choir clinic to be held at Har-Ber High School in Springdale on Nov. 1. They will rehearse all day with guest clinicians and present a concert at 7 p.m. The concert is free to the public.

"We are very proud of these fine students for working hard and learning their music well enough to compete in our region," said Gentry's choir director, Trella Yates.

Yates said the northwest Arkansas region is the strongest in the state, making it more difficult for students to qualify for all-region honors.

"Their selection for this choir shows that they have outstanding voices and a great work ethic," Yates said of her students.
