Sheriff will delegate authority

BENTON COUNTY -- Benton County Sheriff Kelley Cradduck will delegate day-to-day decisions to his chief deputy, it was announced Friday.

Cradduck issued a news release to inform the Quorum Court and the public he plans to help care for his wife. His decision was effective Friday, Cradduck said.

"This change is necessary so I can assist my wife as she continues to suffer through some very serious medical issues," Cradduck said. "I will not be taking a leave of absence, however. I plan on attending any and all doctor's visits with her and support her through this difficult time as we continue to focus on her health."

Richie Conner recently was promoted to chief deputy. He replaced Rob Holly, who's now a detective.

Conner said he normally likes to run day-to-day decisions through the sheriff, but now some of those decisions will rest with him.

"We are talking about day-to-day decisions," Conner said. "If anything significant happens, then he (Cradduck) will be called."

Cradduck is going through a tough time, and he needs to help care for his wife, Conner said.
