GRAVETTE -- The Lions brought home a big win from Mayflower, 48-24, on Friday night after suffering a loss at home to Pottsville in the team's season opener.

The Lions finished the first quarter up only by the point after kick by Cedric Duarte, but by the half the Lions had a 10-point lead, being up 28-18, and from there built on that lead, picking up two more touchdowns and a PAT in the third quarter and another TD and PAT in the final.

Cedric Duarte had a phenomenal night with 252 rushing yards, 59 passing yards and six of seven point-after kicks. He carried the ball across the goal line four times in the game.

The Lions had a total of 338 rushing yards and 112 yards in the air. Layne Martinez caught passes for 59 yards, and Brady Rolsma for 45.

Jackson Soule carried in one, and Martinez and Rolsma both caught a pass in Mayflower's end zone.

Soule led the Lions in tackles with 14 -- seven solos and seven assists. Michael Olvera had 13 -- five solos and 8 assists.

Bill Harrelson, Gravette's head coach, credits much of the team's success to his linemen and their ability to control the line of scrimmage.

"We were able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, and that was the difference in the game," Harrelson said.
