Alumni Basketball Game

A Gentry alumni basketball tournament is set for Oct. 4 at the Gentry High School gym, with games beginning at 10 a.m. All Gentry High School alumni are eligible to play. Cost is $30, which includes a barbecue lunch and a T-shirt. Admission to the event is free, but donations are accepted. A barbecue lunch will be available for $5. Games will be played in a playoff-type setting, with a prize going to the winning team. Proceeds will be used for the high school's basketball program, to buy needed supplies. Flu Shots for Students

Free flu shots for students at Gentry Public Schools will be available on Oct. 14. The Benton County Health Unit, in conjunction with Gentry Schools, will be providing free flu shots to all students. Those with insurance are asked to provide insurance information for the County Health Department. Those without health insurance coverage for the shots will be offered the vaccines at no charge. Permission forms will be sent home with every student a week or two before the clinic. Forms must be completely filled out, signed and returned to the school nurse before the vaccines are given.

Miss Octoberfest Pageant

The Miss Octoberfest Pageant will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Gentry High School auditorium, sponsored by the Gentry junior high cheerleaders. The pageant is open to any and all participants, with age divisions from 0 months to 18 years of age, including divisions for boys from 0 months to 6 years of age. Maysville E.H. Bean Supper

The Maysville E.H. Club has set Saturday, Oct. 4, as the date for their fall fundraiser. It will be a bean supper and serving of beans, coleslaw, corn bread and drinks will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the community building. Price is just a donation. Homemade pies will be sold, and a cake walk will be held.

Area Quilt Class

A free class for area quilters and crafters will be held this Saturday, Sept. 20, at 12:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving St. S.W., in Gravette. Instruction will be given on a quilt block and a "show and tell" session will be held. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share.

Maysville Crafts and More

Maysville Extension Homemakers Club is sponsoring a "Crafts & More" event Nov. 1 at the Maysville Community Building. Vendors may rent a booth to sell items for only $10. To reserve a booth, call 479 291 4520.

'Throwback Thursday'

The Gravette Junior High Cheerleaders invite the community to a "Throwback Thursday" junior high football game on September 25 against the Lincoln Wolves. They want everyone, parents, students, teachers and fans, to show up in retro or vintage (years past) Lion game gear. Wear your old T-shirts, jackets and jerseys! The cheerleaders hope to make this an annual community event where everyone shows up to support the junior high Lions.

Colcord Senior Center

The annual fundraiser for the Colcord Senior Center, sponsored by Kansas Masonic Lodge 252, will be held beginning at 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, at the center, located at 192 W. Senior St., Colcord, Okla. Indian taco dinners and drinks will be served for $6. Desserts will be extra. Tim Billups and friends will provide music. Funds will be used for operational expenses. Pickin' Time on 59

Pickin' Time on 59, featuring antiques, collectibles, garage and yard sale items and some business promotions, is set for Oct. 9, 10 and 11. The event route will be from the Siloam Springs Airport, on Arkansas Highway 59 just north of U.S. Highway 412, north through Gentry, Decatur, Gravette and Sulphur Springs. The city of Gentry waives its yard and garage sale permit requirements during the three-day event. Those who would like to set up a booth in Gentry may contact Bev Saunders at 479-736-2358 to reserve a space.

Benefit Poker Run

A poker run fundraiser to benefit the Gravette Public Library will be held Saturday, Oct. 11. Motorcycle riders should meet at 9 a.m. at the library, 407 Charlotte St. S.E., in Gravette. Funds raised will go into the building fund for a new public library. Cost will be $25 for each rider and $10 for an extra rider. The route will be down Hwy. 59 to the Lincoln Library, then across 412 and on to the Pea Ridge Library, then to the Bella Vista Library and back to Gravette.

Hiwasse Fall Festival

The annual Hiwasse Fall Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hiwasse Fire Station, 13860 Fire House Lane, with attractions for all ages. There will be music, inflatables and games to play. Hamburger meals including hamburgers, chips and a drink will be available for $5, with proceeds benefiting the Hiwasse Community Room. Local crafts and fresh veggies will also be sold. Free snow cones, cookies, cotton candy and bottled water will be available. A chili cook off will be a feature of the event. Area cooks are invited to enter a pot of chili to be judged. To enter chili or reserve a spot for local crafts/fresh veggies call 479-721-2143. Booths must be set up by 10:30 a.m.

Singspiration Service

The Pioneer Church of God (Holiness) will be holding a special "Singspiration" service on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. This will be a special time of musical worship and praise. Fellow Christians are invited to bring a song, reading or poem to share. The church is located just north of the Gentry police station, at 104 North Collins. Sulphur Springs Library

The Sulphur Springs Public Library, located at 512 Black Street, is now open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3 to 5 p.m. with volunteer help. Library membership cards for an individual may be purchased for $2 and a family card is $5. Phone 479-298-3753 for further information.

Gravette Library Gala

The second annual Gravette Public Library fund-raising gala will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Cedaridge Event Center, 10889 Highway 72 W., in Bentonville. The event will feature a catered dinner, casino games, silent auction and a DJ. Dress is business/casual. Tickets are available for $25 per person or $160 for a table of eight and may be purchased at the Gravette library, Arvest Bank - Gravette and the Bank of Gravett or from any library commission member. Men's Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly men's fellowship gathering at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. All men are welcome to come for food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

Decatur Revival

Midway Pentecostal Church, at 758 Hill Avenue in Decatur, will be holding a revival, with Rockey Millsap from Oklahoma ministering. Services will begin Sunday, Sept. 21, and continue through Wednesday, Sept. 24. Sunday evening service will begin at 6 p.m. Week night services will begin at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited.

Mason Valley Baptist

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Mason Valley Baptist Church Activity Center are held at 7 p.m. the second Friday of each month. The church is located on Arkansas Highway 12 midway between Highfill and Vaughn.

Church Singing

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist in Sulphur Springs holds a singing service every fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 6:30 p.m. A potluck dinner follows. For more information, call Jheri Roberts, the pastor, at 752-7082.

Gravette Lions Club

Gravette Lions Club meets at 1 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month and at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at the Billy V. Hall Wellness and Activity Center on Limekiln Road in Gravette. Coffee and cookies are served at the evening meeting. New members are welcome.

Gentry History Book

Stories and old photos are being sought from Gentry residents, past and present, for the new Gentry 120-year history book being prepared for publication. Stories about individuals, families and businesses are being sought. Suggested length is 300 words and the name of the submitter should be included at the end of each story. Items may be sent to Gentry History Book, P.O. Box 642, Gentry, AR 72734. Deadline for submissions is Nov. 1. The Gentry history books may be pre-ordered for $65 using the form included on the Gentry Chamber of Commerce website. Committee members working on the book are Janice Arnold, Tammie Runyan, Berta Norris, Rick Parker, Kevin Johnston, Kristi Holloway, Janie Parks, Sherry Ransom, Bev Saunders, Marla England and Darla Threet.

Decatrur FFA Meat Sales

Decatur FFA will be taking orders on Blue and Gold meat products until Oct. 1. The orders should arrive the third week in October. A 2.5 pound roll of sausage is $8, a 3.5 pound package of bacon is $16, and 5 pound package of breaded chicken breasts is $20. Money will be taken at delivery. The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the McKee Community Room, in the Gentry Public Library, on Main Street at N. Collins Ave. New members and visitors are welcome.

Gravette Library

Commission

The Gravette Public Library Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the library, located at 407 Charlotte St., S.E., just east of the Civic Center.

Museum Commission

The Gravette Museum Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month in the museum annex building, 503 Charlotte St., S.E., just east of the Gravette Public Library.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW Meetings

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur Arkansas Highway 102 and right on Tilly's Hill Road.
