Lester set to compete in Invitational Youth Rodeo

KANSAS CITY (Mo.) -- Baylee Lester, of Highfill, has qualified to compete in breakaway roping, goat tying and barrel racing in the American Royal Invitational Youth Rodeo, which kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 23, and continues through Friday, Sept. 26, in the Hale Arena at the American Royal Complex in Kansas City.

The four-day event features top student athletes competing in events such as bull riding, barrel racing and the crowd favorite, mutton busting. Since 2007, the American Royal has awarded $68,500 in scholarships at the Invitational Youth Rodeo, along with additional prize money and awards.

"I am really honored to compete at the American Royal, it is where many champions have gone and won before," Baylee Lester said.

The event will be divided into Junior and Senior Divisions. The Senior Division is made up of athletes ages 14-18 who will compete on Sept. 23 and Sept. 24 at 11:30 a.m. both days. Senior Division events include bareback riding, bull riding, barrel racing, breakaway roping, steer wrestling and more.

The Junior Division, in which Baylee competes, is composed of athletes ages 13 and under, and will compete on the final two days of the Invitational Youth Rodeo on Sept. 25 and Sept. 26, at 12 p.m. both days. These energetic youngsters will compete in events such as mutton busting, barrel racing, junior bareback riding, breakaway roping and goat tying.
