Terms expired for four on Decatur Housing Authority Board

DECATUR -- Two items were brought to council attention by Mayor Charles Linam and City Clerk Kim Wilkins concerning the Decatur Housing Authority.

"It has come to my attention that the terms of four members of the DHA board had expired, two of them in 2012," Linam said.

According to DHA by-laws, each member must be reappointed by the president and the names submitted to the Decatur City Council for approval. No such documentation was received by the city for board president Carl Florer, Fred Thompson, Ken Setser and Stacy Brooks, according to Linam.

The council approved a motion to send DHA a request for new appointees or reappointment of the current board to fill the positions. Once the city has received a list from DHA, appointees will be reviewed and approved by the city council.

Kim Wilkins discovered that the current executive director, Debbie Weston, has not submitted to the city clerk's office a copy of the monthly board of directors' minutes as required by DHA bylaws. The city council approved a measure allowing Wilkins to contact Weston with a request for updated minutes.

In other business, the first reading of the Decatur parking ordinance was read by Linam and approved by the city council. The first reading of the Decatur no camping in city park ordinance was also completed by the mayor and approved by the city council. The second readings will take place at the October meeting.

With a recommendation by the mayor, the city council approved moving $3,000 from the park and recreation maintenance budget to the park acquisition budget to enable the park department to purchase a new swing set and teeter-totter for Veterans Park.
