Eighth grader expelled in Gentry

GENTRY -- An eighth grade student was expelled for one year at a special Gentry School Board meeting on Monday night.

According to information presented to the board, the eighth grade boy is alleged to have brought alcohol to school, been involved in fights and was non-compliant and disruptive of classes. Though parents were notified and given opportunity to present their reasons in opposition to the action, they did not appear at the meeting for a hearing on the matter.

At the recommendation of Larry Cozens, middle school principal, and Randy Barrett, superintendent of schools, the board voted unanimously to suspend the student for one calendar year.
