Lions Golf Classic is set for Saturday, May 9 in Bella Vista

GRAVETTE -- The popular Gravette Lions Golf Classic will be held on Saturday, May 9, this year, according to John Edwards, Gravette school board member. This is the 13th year for the event, held at the Scotsdale Golf Course in Bella Vista. Edwards invites all area golfers to participate in the classic, which raises money for Gravette High School activities.

The Lions Golf Classic is open to both men and women. Events include men's and women's four-person scrambles and a mixed four-person scramble. It is limited to the first 144 entries. Prizes will be given for closest to the pin, hole in one and longest drive.

The project, sponsored by the Gravette High School Boosters Club, has raised thousands of dollars to support athletics, drama, vocal music, instrumental music, art, cheerleading and HOSA programs at GHS. The boosters also give several academic awards to students at the school.

An entry fee of $70 includes a golf fee. Golf carts are required and can be rented for $34. Golfers will receive tee favors and will be able to meet and mingle with some of the students the classic benefits. Lunch will be served after play has ended.

Edwards and fellow school board member Jack Skillett have been instrumental in promoting the Lions Golf Classic for several years. They remind local businesses that corporate sponsorships are welcome and are tax deductible when made to the Gravette School Foundation. Sponsorships at platinum ($1,000), gold ($500) and silver ($250) levels are sought, as well as hole sponsorships ($100), hole prize donations and player gift bags. Memorial gifts may also be made. For further information, call Edwards, 876-1192, or Skillett, 876-6841.

The Classic will be held rain or shine. Entry forms are available at banks in Gravette and Bella Vista or from Edwards or Skillett. Entry deadline is May 4.
