"Northern Lights"

Arkansas Philharmonic to perform

SILOAM SPRINGS -- Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at John Brown University's Berry Performing Arts Center.

Maestro Steven Byess has titled this program "Northern Lights" as a tribute to the music of Norwegian composers Edvard Grieg and Johan Halvorsen.

"Listening to the music of these two composers, one can easily imagine the narrow, steep-walled inlets of the sea, and the majestic fjords along Norway's western coast," said Byess. "Grieg's music, in particular, embodies the rugged beauty of this region and translates it into gorgeous melodies and harmonic colors."

Italian pianist Roberto Plano will be a featured musician. He will perform Edvard Grieg's popular Piano Concerto in A minor.

Also featured will be the winner of the third annual Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra -- University of Arkansas Concerto Competition, tenor Daniel Salls, performing Granada by Agustin Lara and Dein ist mein ganzes herz by Franz Lehar with orchestral accompaniment.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.arkansasphhilharmonic.org, by phone at 479-841-4644 or by email at [email protected]. Tickets can also be purchased the night of the performance.
