GENTRY -- After trading the lead numerous times in play against Huntsville, two late game errors in the top of the eighth gave Gentry's Lady Pioneers the edge they needed to win the game on Monday, 8-7.

It was 5 to 5 at the end of the seventh in Huntsville; and in the top of the eighth, with Courtney Brown placed on second for the Lady Pioneers, an error on the part of Huntsville's third baseman allowed Makensi Sweeten to get on and Brown to advance to third. Then another error, this one by Huntsville's first baseman, allowed Alexis Aycock to get on and Brown to score. A ground out to second by Alyssa Kelton brought in Lyndzey Sikes (pinch runner for Sweeten), and a Christina Campbell single to left field brought in Aycock, making it 8 to 5 at the end of Gentry's half of the inning.

Huntsville answered in the bottom of the eighth with two hits and two runs but it wasn't enough, allowing Gentry to bring home the victory.

Kelton had four singles and two RBIs in the game. Boston and Aycock also drove in two each. Kelton also pitched eight innings for Gentry and struck out four Huntsville batters. She allowed nine hits and three earned runs.

In a tough game on April 2, Gentry caught up from a 5-0 deficit to Berryville and tied things up at five apiece by the bottom of the sixth at the Merrill Reynolds Memorial Complex in Gentry, but the Lady Bobcats blew open the game in the top of the seventh, scoring nine runs, including a three-run homer. The Lady Pioneers were unable to answer.

Pea Ridge 10

Gentry 4

The Lady Pioneers took the lead, 2-0 in the top of the third, but the Lady Blackhawks answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning with a grand-slam home run and continued to build on that lead until the bottom of the sixth when it was 10-2, Pea Ridge. Gentry scored two in the top of the seventh but it wasn't enough.
