Community Shred Day to be hosted by Grand Savings Bank

SILOAM SPRINGS -- Celebrate Earth Day by shredding and recycling confidential documents at a free Shred Day hosted by Grand Savings Bank. Small business owners and individuals can shred documents for free, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, at the Siloam Springs branch, 1660 W. U.S. 412 Hwy.

Shred Day is a quick, convenient and secure way to dispose of confidential paperwork in an environmentally smart way. Participants may pull through the bank's parking lot, drop off their documents with Shred-it's mobile shredding truck and be on their way in a matter of minutes.

According to Leah Jo Morgan, vice president of information technology, any documents or media that display account numbers or social security numbers could lead to identity theft and should be properly shredded. Morgan recommends shredding the following items: financial statements, credit applications, insurance records, physician statements, checks, employment applications and credit card receipts.

"Earth Day is the perfect time to hold a shred event because each ton of paper recycled saves 26 trees and is used for future paper products," said Morgan. "In past events we've recycled several tons of paper and we hope to do the same at this event."

Morgan encourages small businesses and families to do a spring cleaning, clear out cabinets full of unwanted papers and take advantage of the quick and free recycling. She said staff will be on site to answer questions about ways to prevent identity theft.

"Grand Savings Bank is providing a great opportunity for customers and community members to easily dispose of personal documents," said Morgan. "This will allow our friends and neighbors to clear storage space while eliminating sensitive information risk."

There isn't a limit to the amount of documents participants are able to shred. However, if an individual or small business has an extremely large amount, please call the bank to set up a time. Any type of paper document is welcomed. No cardboard or other media type is accepted by Shred-it's mobile shredding truck. Staples, rubber bands, folders and paper clips do not need to be removed before shredding. For more information, call Kelsie Geister, Grand Savings Bank marketing director, 918-787-8503.
