GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers jumped to an early lead against the Bentonville Lady Tigers on Friday, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first, but they couldn't stop Bentonville from coming back and taking the victory.

Things looked favorable for the Lady Pioneers when the first two Lady Tiger batters were out on a grounder and a line drive and the third batter went down swinging. And that was especially so when the Lady Pioneers answered with four big runs in their opening at bat. Alyssa Kelton walked, Brooke Boston singled to left, Jaime Pierce singled to center and drove in Alexis Aycock who was pinch runner for Kelton. Then Taylor Hull hit a fly ball to the short stop for another single and drove in Boston. Pierce made it home on a sacrifice by Shamere Corter; and Sabra Philpott, courtesy runner for Hull, scored on a passed ball.

But, unfortunately for the Lady Pioneers, that was all they would score in the game. The Lady Tigers, on the other hand, answered with two in the third, two in the fourth and five big runs in the fifth and final inning of play, making it 9-4 in favor of Bentonville.

Gentry had four runs on five hits in the game, compared to Bentonville's nine runs on 13 hits. Pierce was two for three with her bat. Hull and Corter each had an RBI in the game.

Kelton pitched the full five-inning game, throwing 91 pitches and allowing 13 hits and six earned runs. She had two strikeouts. Bentonville hit three home runs during the game, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Elkins 8

Gentry 3

Though the Lady Elks scored the first two runs in Thursday's home game against Elkins, the Lady Pioneers tied things up at two apiece in the bottom of the third and took a one-run lead in the bottom of the fourth. But that wasn't enough. In an explosive at bat in the sixth, the Lady Elks drove in six runs and sealed their victory, 8-3.

Brooke Boston and Jaime Pierce scored two for Gentry in the bottom of the third. Boston got on when she was hit by a pitch. Pierce reached on a third baseman's error. The two were moved around the bases by Tayor Hull and Shamere Corter. In the fourth, Pierce pounded a ground-ball double to left field and scored Jessica Sykes, courtesy runner for Alyssa Kelton who had doubled to right.

Gentry's three runs came on six hits. Elkins scored eight runs on 11 hits.

Kelton led Gentry in hits, with two. Corter had two RBIs for the Lady Pioneers.

Kelton pitched all but two thirds of an inning when Boston relieved her.
