Gentry girls win two

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers lost to Prairie Grove last week but came back to pick up wins over Lincoln and Gravette.

In play on Monday, the Lady Lions took the lead in the third when Destiny Laymon scored on a Jaye Chalk bunt, but that is as far as the Lady Lions would go.

Gentry took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Jaime Pierce walked and was brought home by a Courtney Brown triple to right. Then Micah Turtle hit a line drive into right, scoring Brown. The Lady Pioneers added another run in the bottom of the fifth. Jaime Pierce doubled to center, bringing in Brooke Boston, who had walked.

Lindsee LaBrecque pitched for the Lady Lions, striking out seven but allowing six hits and three runs. Alyssa Kelton, pitching for the Lady Pioneers, struck out five and only allowed two hits and a solo run.

Brooke Boston was two for two for the Lady Pioneers. Jaime Pierce hit a double and Courtney Brown a triple.

Lincoln 2

The Lady Pioneers scored three and stopped the Lady Wolves in the eighth inning to bring home the win on Thursday.

With Lincoln scoring runs in the third and seventh and Gentry in the fourth and sixth, the game went into extra innings and Gentry came out on top.

With Micah Turtle starting out on second, Jaime Pierce singled to right and moved Turtle to third. Turtle scored when Taylor Hull hit a grounder out into left field and Pierce scored on a wild pitch. Jessica Sykes, courtesy runner for Hull, made it home on a single to right by Makensi Sweeten, giving Gentry the victory, 5-2.

Hull and Sweeten each had one hit and two RBIs in the game. Boston hit a double.

Alyssa Kelton pitched for the Lady Pioneers, picking up the win. She walked three and struck out six, allowing five hits and one run. Brooke Boston also threw seven pitches in the game for Gentry.

Prairie Grove 8

Gentry 4

Things didn't go quite as well for the Lady Pioneers when they entered Lady Tiger territory on April 14. Though Gentry took an early lead and was up by one in the middle of the fifth, the Lady Tigers scored five in the bottom of the fifth to take the game without needing to bat in the seventh.

Gentry's runs were scored by Jaime Pierce and Brooke Boston. Pierce walked twice and scored three times -- on a walk, a steal and on a hit by Taylor Hull.

Alyssa Kelton struck out three batters for Gentry and allowed 11 hits and three earned runs.
