Power-lifting team honored in Congress

Kathryn Gough, Senator Boozman’s representative, and Gentry Major Kevin Johnston were at Gentry High School on April 14 to present the Gentry High School powerlifting team with congressional certificates of recognition from Senator John Boozman for the team’s national championship. The Gentry powerlifting team (an unsanctioned sport in Arkansas) competed in the 31st annual Natural Athlete Strength Association High School National Powerlifting Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., on March 28, with nine lifters competing in powersports and unequipped bench press. The Gentry athletes won a team national championship, with five bench press national champions and two runners up. Gentry is the first high school powerlifting team to win a national championship in the state of Arkansas.
