DECA students going to nationals

GRAVETTE -- Bob Johnson, marketing teacher and DECA sponsor at Gravette High School, and two of his students, seniors Cole Turner and Nolan Warren, attended the April meeting of the Gravette school board and reported on the DECA students' recent results at state competition.

Gravette students competed in team decision and individual case interview events at the state competition. Students receiving medals and certificates at state were: Cole Turner and Noah Moore, fifth in sports and entertainment marketing team decision; Ariana Rogers and Victoria Johnson, fifth in hospitality and tourism team decision; Trey Nunnally, third in business services and marketing; Miranda Mendoza, second in quick-serve restaurant management; and Cody Smith, fifth place in human resource management.

Students who place in the top three in their competitions are automatically qualified to go to the International Career Development Conference, DECA's national event. Students who place in the top six may move up to compete if other schools drop out. Gravette students have attended the ICDC nine of the 11 years they have competed. Gravette High School has qualified at least one student each year of the program.

Gravette students are attending the international conference in Orlando, Florida, this week, where they will be competing against students from other countries, including Britain, Japan, China and Canada.
