Gentry girls defeat Siloam Springs

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers handed the Siloam Springs Lady Panthers a sound defeat during non-league play in Siloam Springs on Monday.

The Lady Pioneers put four runs on the board before the Lady Panthers finally scored in the bottom of the fourth. Alexis Aycock, courtesy runner for Alyssa Kelton who singled to right, scored for Gentry in the first when Siloam Springs walked three batters in a row.

In the top of the fourth, with two outs, Kelton walked and Brooke Boston reached first on a second baseman's error. Jaime Pierce then hit a long fly ball to left for a triple, driving in two Gentry runners. Taylor Hull brought in Pierce as well with a single to left, making it 4-0, Gentry.

The Lady Panthers responded with a pair of doubles in the bottom half of the inning, bringing in their first run. But, in Gentry's next at bat, five more runners crossed the plate. Jessica Sykes scored on a Kelton single to right. Mycah Turtle and Aycock scored on a Boston fly-ball single to right. And then Pierce pounded one over the center field fence, scoring two more for the Lady Pioneers.

Siloam Springs cut Gentry's lead by two on a single, followed by a Lady Panther home run.

Gentry made it 10-3 when Makensi Sweeten walked and later made it home on a first baseman's error.

The Lady Panthers picked up another three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough and the Lady Pioneers finished up, 10-6, after seven.

Jaime Pierce led Gentry with her bat, hitting a triple and a home run and bringing in four for the Lady Pioneers. Alyssa Kelton and Brooke Boston also had two hits in the game.

Kelton pitched the full seven innings for Gentry, throwing 96 pitches, walking one and striking out four. Crissa Spry pitched for the Lady Panthers. She threw 174 pitches, walked nine, struck out 10, and allowed nine hits and one earned run in the game.
