Gravette girls fall to Gentry, 3 to 1

GENTRY -- In a game between Highway 59 rivals, Gravette's Lady Lions fell to Gentry's Lady Pioneers in a low-scoring, 3-1 game in Gentry April 20.

The Lady Lions scored the first run of the game in the top of the third when Destiny Laymon and Lindsee LaBrecque both got on base through Gentry errors and a sacrifice bunt by Jaye Chalk brought Laymon home. But that was the only time the Lady Lions crossed the plate.

The Lady Pioneers, on the other hand, came back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Jaime Pierce was walked by LaBrecque and advanced to second on a Shamere Corter ground out to the pitcher. Courtney Brown then pounded a line-drive triple to right, scoring Pierce. A Mycah Turtle single to right brought in Brown.

The Gentry girls added a run in the bottom of the fifth, making it 3 to 1 Gentry. Brooke Boston walked and was moved around the bases by a Taylor Hull single and a Jaime Pierce double to center field.

Jaki Chalk hit a single to left for the Lady Lions in the sixth, but that was the end of hitting or scoring in the game.

LaBrecque and Jaki Chalk had Gravette's only hits in the game. Boston led Gentry with her bat, with two hits. Pierce, Brown and Turtle each had an RBI.

Alyssa Kelton was the winning pitcher in the game, allowing two hits and one unearned run. She struck out five Gravette batters.

LaBrecque, the losing pitcher, struck out seven Gentry batters, allowed six hits and three earned runs.
