Letter Carriers' Food Drive

The Gravette Post Office announces its carriers are participating in the annual letter carriers' food drive, sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers, on Saturday, May 9. Postal patrons are asked to place donations of nonperishable food items in a bag beside their mailbox and their rural carrier will pick them up on that day. All food items donated will be delivered to a local food bank.

National Day of Prayer

There will be a prayer breakfast Thursday, May 7, at the Gentry First Baptist Church from 7 to 8 a.m., sponsored by the Gentry Ministerial Alliance. This year's speaker will be Lewis Wilmoth of the First Pentecostal Church of Springtown. Everyone is invited to come join in prayer for local, state and national officials, along with other concerns at home and abroad. The theme for 2015 is: "Lord, Hear Our Cry," drawn from I Kings 8:28.

Buddy Day

Buddy Day at Glenn Duffy Elementary is set for May 15. The field day event consists of outside cooperative games (weather permitting). Select students from other campuses will be working the game stations or helping to chaperone students from one station to the next. Donations for individually-wrapped snacks, juice boxes and sunscreen (SPF 30+) will gladly be accepted to help with this fun and exciting day. Rabies Clinics

Rabies clinics will be held Wednesday, April 29, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Decatur Fire Station; Thursday, April 30, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Sulphur Springs Park; and Saturday, May 2, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Highfill City Park. Cost of the vaccinations at Decatur and Sulphur Springs will be $8. The Highfill location will offer a one-year vaccination for $6 or a three-year vaccination for $12. The Gentry Veterinary Clinic will offer rabies vaccinations for $5 off through May 2. Call 736-2354 for an appointment. Country View Animal Care in Gravette will give vaccinations in the clinic Friday, May 1, for $8. Call 787-6284 for times.

Bethel Cemetery

The semiannual work day at Bethel Cemetery, south of Gravette, will be held Saturday, May 2, beginning at 9 a.m. All persons interested in upkeep of the cemetery are urged to attend. Please bring chain saws, clippers, rakes and shovels and snacks to share. In case of rain, the work day will be postponed until Saturday, May 9. For information call Betty Russow, 479-787-9625.

Spring Cleanup Days

Gravette's annual spring cleanup day will be held Tuesday, May 5, and the date for the Hiwasse area is Thursday, May 7. Large items will be picked up curbside on these days (regular trash pickup days). Everyone is asked to place items out for pickup no more than a day or two before the scheduled cleanup date. Lumber will be picked up if it is no longer than 4 feet, tied in a bundle and weighs less than 50 pounds. Items which will not be picked up include paint, tires, batteries, chemicals, appliances, electronics and yard waste. Anyone having questions may call city hall, 787-5757. Brush, tree limbs and metal items may be disposed of free of charge at any time at the city shop location on Eighth Avenue S.W.

TOPS Open House

TOPS AR#113, Gentry, is having an open house at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 4, at the Christian Church, 105 W. Second, Gentry. TOPS is a national support group for taking off pounds sensibly. Information will be provided and Kathy Phillips, area captain, will be the guest speaker. All are invited to attend. Meetings are held each Monday.

Kids Fair and Health Expo

The Siloam Springs Regional Hospital ER Kids Fair and Health Expo will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, at the hospital. The event is free and open to people of all ages. It will include educational attractions such as the fire safety house, a Teddy Bear Clinic in the SSRH emergency room, emergency vehicles, a fingerprinting station from Siloam Springs Police Department and many vendors from all over the state and from Oklahoma.

Benefit Spaghetti Dinner

A spaghetti dinner will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center. The dinner, sponsored by the ladies of the Gravette First Christian Church and Gravette Church of Christ, will be a fundraiser for the center's Meals on Wheels program. Carryouts will be available. Great Lego Build-off

Imagine Before and After School Care will host its third annual Great Lego Build-off on Saturday, May 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. for Lego enthusiasts of all ages (7 to 107 plus). No kits are allowed. Creation must be the builder's own. Bring a best creation and enter the Build-off contest. All participants will receive a certificate. Prizes will be awarded to the winners. Highfill Food Pantry

The Highfill United Methodist food pantry will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. For more information, call the church at 479-736-1275.

Go7 Food Program

The Go7 food program's next free food giveaway will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at the Gravette Civic Center (Boys and Girls Club building) on Charlotte St., S.E. The program is open to the public and requires no proof of income. Bags may be brought. The food program will continue on the last Saturday of each month at the same time and location.

Coupon Signup

A representative from the Area Agency on Aging will be at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, located at 1870 Limekiln Rd. in Gravette, on Thursday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to sign up seniors to receive coupons that can be used to purchase fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from local farmers' markets. A photo identification and proof of household income are needed to sign up. Coupon recipients must be 60 or older and meet monthly income guidelines. For more information, call 787-5950.

Farmers' Market

The Gravette Farmers' Market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Old Town Park, 110 Park Drive, in Gravette. It features locally-grown produce, flowers, meats and more.
