Pageants planned for Gravette Day

The annual Gravette Day celebration on Saturday, Aug. 8, will include popular pageants for youngsters, as well as the Miss Gravette and Miss Gravette Teen contests.

A Pretty Baby contest will be held for girls and boys from birth to 23 months old, and a Tiny Tot contest is for girls and boys ages 2 to 6 years old. The Miss Gravette Teen contest is open to girls 13 to 16 years old, and the Miss Gravette contest to girls 17 to 21 years old. All contestants must reside in the Gravette School District or have a close family member who lives in the district. The Pretty Baby contestants must have an adult accompany them on stage. Winners of all contests will receive trophies and crowns.

Contestants will be judged on overall appearance and poise. There will be three out-of-town judges and their decision will be final. Entrants are advised to dress in something cool and comfortable.

The Pretty Baby and Tiny Tot contests will be held at 4 p.m., with crowning immediately following. Contestants are asked to check in at the main stage in Kindley Park by 3:15 p.m. The Miss Gravette Teen street wear competition and crowning will be at 5 p.m. with requested check in by 4:15.

The Miss Gravette pageant is open to students enrolled in Gravette Public Schools or who are being home schooled. They will be judged on beauty, poise and personal appearance. Contestants will make two appearances on stage, one in street wear at 5:30 p.m. and one in formal evening wear at 7:30 p.m., with announcement of the winner at 8 p.m. They are also required to ride in the Gravette Day parade which will be held at 12 noon, with lineup scheduled at 11:30 a.m. Contestants are required to have a sponsor, which can be a friend, a family member or a local business. The winner will be awarded a $250 cash prize, the first runner-up a $100 cash prize and the second runner-up $50 in cash.

A rehearsal will be held for Miss Gravette contestants at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 7, in Kindley Park.
