Gentry teachers honored at breakfast

GENTRY -- Teachers and staff from the Gentry School District gathered for a special faculty and staff breakfast on Aug. 11, filling much of the Gentry High and Middle School cafeteria, as the teachers and staff made ready for the new school year which began on Monday.

During the breakfast, Teacher of the Year plaques were presented to Mandy Shelley and Nikki England. Shelley was honored as Teacher of the Year at Gentry Middle School and as Teacher of the Year for the Gentry School District. England was Teacher of the Year in the Primary School.

Though not present, David Shelby (now retired) was the Teacher of the Year at Gentry High School, and Betsy Raiford (who left the district after last school year) was Teacher of the Year for the Intermediate School.

A number of teachers received service pins for their years of service to the school district. Included in the pin presentations were Randy Barrett, district superintendent, and Larry Cozens, Middle School principal, for 40 years of service.
