GENTRY -- The Pioneers kicked off their fall sports' season with a "Meet the Pioneers" event on Friday at Pioneer Stadium, and members of Gentry's athletic teams were introduced to fans in the fundraising event sponsored by the Pioneer Athletic Booster Club.
Introduced were members of Gentry's golf team (with numerous contests already complete), volleyball teams, cross country team, football teams, cheer squads and band. The band and cheerleaders led students and fans in the fight song and other cheers. The football team and cheerleaders sang the school's alma matter.
Following the introductions, the football squad ran a number of plays on the gridiron, and everyone -- student athletes and fans alike -- enjoyed a hot-dog or hamburger dinner at the event.
The Pioneer varsity football team will take on Elkins at 7 p.m. Friday in Pioneer Stadium.
