Springtown looking into adding more speed bumps

SPRINGTOWN -- Little official action was taken at Springtown's Aug. 18 meeting but a number of items were discussed, with future action anticipated.

The council urged the mayor to purchase four U.S. flags for the town to display during national holidays. Mayor Preston Barrett said the flags would cost about $30 each, plus shipping.

After hearing complaints of drivers speeding down Main Street and endangering children playing in the park, the council asked Mayor Barrett to look into the cost of purchasing and installing additional speed bumps on Main Street to slow traffic, especially in the park area.

Adding a light in the city park was discussed, and Mayor Barrett said he would work on getting a light in the park with a timer so that it is not left on when no one is in the park.

A sign designating the new Aubrey Long Bridge as the Don Early Bridge was discussed, with Barrett saying he would look back in the minutes and check into getting a sign for the bridge. Also discussed was tree-limb removal on the hill on Old Springtown Road because growth of trees and brush has narrowed the road and poses a safety hazard.
