DECATUR -- It was the last pool party for the Decatur City Park pool as it closed down for the season.

The Decatur Middle School held the last fling of the summer for its grade 6-8 students and teachers Aug. 21, as students completed their first full week of school. A total of 70 students and six teachers frolicked in the warm waters of the City Park pool.

During the Aug. 10 meeting, the Decatur City Council discussed the renovations of the nearly 40-year-old facility. The council looked at replacing the changing room and storage rooms on the south end of the facility. Council members also discussed resurfacing the pool deck and repainting the pool. No action was taken by the city council on the renovation project.

The Decatur pool had approximately 1,200 swimmers and sunbathers during the season which officially ended Aug. 14.

The students at Decatur Middle School took advantage of the pool to vent a little pent-up energy and had fun at the same time. Kids jumped off the diving board, played water volleyball and threw each other into the water, all in the name of a good time.
