— The Lady Lions’ first pre-season game was educational according to Gravette’s new volleyball coach, Katie Collins. The Gravette girls fell to a strong Farmington team in three straight sets — 25-19, 25-15 and 25-18 — on Aug. 25.

The game was educational because, according to Coach Collins, her team is going to take the match losses and players are going to learn from their mistakes so they can be ready for conference play, which begins on Sept. 1 when the Lady Wolves from Lincoln visit Gravette.

The Lady Lions were strong in serving, with Shannon McKnight bringing the Lions back almost within reach on the last set. Amanda Pinter and McKnight were both strong in executing kill shots against the Lady Cards.

Both teams played hard and demonstrated their skills on the court but, in the end, the Lady Lions came up short. Fans can expect the Gravette girls to be strong contenders in conference play.

The Lady Lions travel to West Fork this evening to face the Lady Tigers.
