GENTRY -- Eleven students from Gentry High School began their clinical experience training at North Hills Life Care and Rehab in Fayetteville on Nov. 21 and will continue clinical training for the next two Saturdays as a part of their class preparing them for state certification as nurse aides.

The CNA class meets an hour per school day for one semester and includes an additional 24 hours of clinical experience at a nursing home. The Northwest Arkansas Community College instructor is Yolonda Moll, LPN.

Those students who successfully complete the class offered at the high school by NWACC will be eligible to take their state test and become certified. Training and state certification is required for employment as a nurse aide in Arkansas and is often a prerequisite for admission to nursing programs preparing students to become licensed practical nurses or registered nurses.

Students who complete the CNA course are also eligible to continue their medical training through a patient care technician class to offered through NWACC next semester at Gentry High School.

The medical classes are being offered at the high school to help prepare students for gainful employment upon graduation from Gentry High School and, in this case, to also pursue higher levels of medical training in college.
