"Come Home for Christmas" event planned Saturday

GRAVETTE — Folks in Gravette have been working for weeks on making this year's Christmas celebration a must-see event. Thinking back to happy holiday celebrations from their younger days, they've planned similar activities and invite everyone in the area to "Come Home for Christmas" this Saturday, Dec. 5.

The annual Christmas parade will kick off the event, beginning at 4 p.m. Entry deadline is Thursday, Dec. 3. Prizes will be given for first-, second- and third-place floats. Anyone interested in entering may visit the Chamber of Commerce website, www.gravettechamber.com, to download an entry form or pick one up at Ozarks Community Hospital, Bank of Gravett or Dynamic Rhythm Dance Studio. Parade entries will line up at 3:30 p.m. and late entries will be permitted but will not be eligible for prizes.

The Christmas parade will conclude at the Gravette Historical Museum, which will host a number of events inside the Kindley house and annex and on the grounds. The museum and grounds have been decorated with old-fashioned Christmas decorations. Youngsters will be able to craft their own ornaments to decorate an outdoor tree to help feed the birds during the holiday season. Santa will be hearing the children's requests in the "school room" of the museum annex, and Town and Country 4-H Club members will be assisting him as his elves. Anyone wanting souvenir photos may have them made with Santa in a North Pole setting.

Bob and Sandy Kelley, dressed in vintage costume, will be giving tours of the Kindley house, and a campfire will be burning on the grounds to warm guests enjoying outdoor activities. Ladies from the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center will be serving hot cocoa, the Bank of Gravett is providing cookies and Mike von Ree will be cooking a pot of chili, all at no charge. Holiday music will be provided by Simply Cello (Cole and Lauren Leonard) and the Gravette High School marching band. Cast members from the GHS drama department's "A Christmas Carol" plan to drop by for a preview of their production later in the evening.

Area residents are invited to come watch the parade at 4 p.m., then visit the museum for activities there which will begin about 5 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m. The performance of "A Christmas Carol" is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the GHS performing arts center. A second performance will be held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 6, at 2:30 p.m.
