DECATUR -- A class of students at Decatur Northside Elementary got a lesson in the true meaning of Thanksgiving Nov. 24 as they gathered around a television to watch a holiday classic and enjoy good food.

Joyce Turnage's second grade class hosted a Thanksgiving feast for parents and guests in her classroom at the elementary school. Her goal was to teach the kids to appreciate the things they have in life, such as good family and friends.

While the meal was being prepared, the students watched "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving." As the video credits were rolling across the television screen, the young students turned their attentions toward the feast that was about to begin.

Turnage, wearing a traditional pilgrim dress, served up apple cider and a pumpkin desert, while fellow teacher Josie Lucio served the main course which consisted of corn on the cob, a chicken pot-pie dish and cranberries.

After the feast, it was time to hit the books before the Thanksgiving break. But for a brief moment, the students had the opportunity to share quality time with their family and friends and give thanks for the good things around them.
