GENTRY --The Pioneers picked up their second win of the season when they played Decatur on Nov. 24, defeating the visiting Bulldogs, 46-31.

The Bulldogs kept pace with the Pioneers through most of the first half, playing a strong game on both sides of the court, but the Pioneers slowly pulled away in the second half to take the victory.

"We have a good team," said Decatur's head coach, John Unger. "We came out and set the tone early, and our guys competed so hard. I thought we did an excellent job controlling the tempo and executing on offense in the first half."

"We will build off this effort and continue to improve," Unger added. "Any time a 1A school can compete with a 4A school like this, we know we will be OK in our league. Our nonconference schedule is one of the toughest around and it's making our team better. I can't wait to see what this team accomplishes by seasons' end," Unger said.

For Gentry, which started off sluggish but picked up momentum as the game progressed, this is a second win in the new season. The Pioneers (2-0) beat Elkins in an away game on Nov. 17.

The Pioneers took the lead early and never relinquished it, beating the Elks, 59-43, in spite of a strong fourth quarter for Elkins which cut Gentry's lead by six points.

"The team came out focused against Elkins and was able to execute at a high level," said Sean Price, Gentry's head coach. "We have to continue to do that on a nightly basis," he said. "We have shot the ball really well to start off the season," Price added.
