GENTRY -- Every year the Northwest Arkansas Certified Development Company nominates one student to receive a Diana Tucker Outstanding Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Youth Award, and this year's award went to Sara Glass, a Gentry High School senior who has participated in the workforce program for two years.

Glass has participated in both the summer program and in-school programs over the past two years, according to Carole Shaver, of the Arkansas Workforce Center in Siloam Springs. Glass spent part of that time at Gentry Area Learning Academy and became more outgoing and took an innovative and leadership role in such tasks as cleaning, laundry, meal and snack service and playground supervision. She has also worked at the Gentry Public Library.

Glass is a member of Gentry High School band, according to Shaver.

Along with the award, Shaver was given a $250 scholarship to use as she sees fit toward her education and career training.

Northwest Arkansas Certified Development Company helps people seek and obtain job skills and employment through Arkansas Workforce Centers in Siloam Springs, Rogers, Fayetteville, Harrison and Mountain Home. Its youth program offers pay to students for summer and in-school jobs of service in the local community.
