Decatur Chamber to host Christmas festival

DECATUR -- Soon it will be Christmas time. And with the coming yule tide, comes the Decatur Chamber of Commerce annual Christmas festival and parade Dec. 12.

This year's event begins with the Christmas parade at 6 p.m., with lineup taking place at 5:30 p.m. at Decatur City Hall. The parade will start at city hall and run down Main Street to Decatur Methodist Church and end back at city hall. Santa and Mrs. Claus will take up the rear of the parade.

After the parade, the festival moves to the cafeteria of Decatur High School. The festival starts at 6 p.m. and runs through 8 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand to receive children's Christmas requests.

Some of the exhibitors include a canned food drive by Decatur Girl Scouts, a bake sale by the Decatur High Class of 2018 and a chili supper prepared by members of the Decatur Youth Sports program.

The Decatur SaleBarn Church will provide hot drinks.

The event is sponsored by Farm Credit, Corner Springs Ranch, Grand Savings Bank, Handy Mart, Decatur Livestock Auction, Simmons, Crystal Lake Farms, TNT, McKee Foods and Decatur Public Schools.

The Decatur Chamber will also host its annual house decorating contest, which will be judged Dec, 19. Entries are limited to residents within Decatur city limits. Entries are due Dec. 17. A $100 Farmers Coop gift card will be first prize.
