Gentry girls beat Providence Academy in overtime

— The Lady Pioneers picked up an overtime win on Monday night from Providence Academy in Rogers, defeating the Patriots, 54-53.

The Lady Patriots took the lead in the opening quarter, picking up 16 points to Gentry's 12 on shots by Mallory Morris, Hannah Boss and Chastery Fuamato. But, in the second, the Lady Pioneers took the lead. Haley Borgeteien-James sunk three 2-pointers. Morris added another, and Haley Hays shot a 3-pointer, a deuce and sunk two at the free-throw line. Lauren Little also picked up a point at the line, making it 28-23 at the half.

Providence narrowed Gentry's lead to one, with nine points in the third. Borgeteien-James picked up four for Gentry, with two of those being at the free-throw line. Mallory Morris also put in a free throw.

Gentry scored 14 points in the fourth. Hays hit another 3-pointer. Morris hit a deuce, and Borgeteien-James put in nine — five of those were also at the line. But Providence tied things up at 47 before the final buzzer, adding 15 points to the board and pushing the game into overtime.

Providence dropped in a 3-pointer, a two and another at the free-throw line; but the Gentry girls were determined to bring home the win. Hays put in another long shot for three. Brieann Ward put in a deuce, and Mystic West put in two at the free-throw line.

Borgeteien-James led the Lady Pioneers in shooting with 19 points. Hays had 13 and Morris, 11.
