GENTRY — Friday is colors day at Gentry High School, and seven Gentry seniors are in the running to be chosen and crowned queen at the ceremonies scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday at the Gentry High School gym. Queen candidates include Haley Borgeteien-James, Lauren Little, Mallory Morris, Brieann Ward, Olivia Weathers, Dakota Webb and Abigail Wilmoth. The court also includes the girls’ basketball team and managers.

The game schedule is reversed on Friday, with the boys playing first, at 5:30 p.m., just after the crowning ceremonies. The varsity girls will take to the court following the boys’ game. A pep rally is planned for shortly after 2 p.m on Friday in support of Gentry’s basketball teams when they face Haas Hall Academy in the evening.

And, when the Lady Pioneers score their first point against Haas Hall, stuffed toys will be tossed onto the court as a part of a toy drive for the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter. Fans are urged to bring new, unused stuffed toys to the game and throw them onto the court after the first point is scored for the Gentry girls. Toys may also be dropped off in drop boxes on the high school campus.

Gentry students, including Santa Claus, will be on hand to collect the toys at the Friday night game. And the toys will be delivered to the Children’s Shelter in Highfill to be distributed to children there who have lost the comforts of home and family.
