GENTRY -- The Gentry Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Christmas parade drew large crowds of participants and spectators despite the threat of rain on a very warm December night; and Gentry's Main Street was lined with floats, cars, trucks, motorcycles, equestrian entries and more on Saturday evening as the parade moved west through downtown.

The theme for this year's parade was "A Country Christmas," and a covered-wagon float entered by the Bloomfield 4H won the best theme award.

The lighting award was won by the McDonalds float, complete with McDonalds charaters, reindeer and giant sleigh. The overall award went to the float entered by the Gentry Public Library volunteers, with library employees and volunteers riding in Christmas attire.

The music award went to Cornerstone Baptist Church, with Audra Weathers singing an angelic chorus announcing the birth of the Christ child.

And the threatening rains? They held off until the final minutes of the parade and didn't seem to dampen the spirits of anyone.

"Thanks for all! It was a great parade -- so beautiful," said Bev Saunders, director of the Gentry Chamber.
