DECATUR -- The Bulldogs celebrated colors day a little early this year. The event took place during the Decatur Holiday Tournament Dec. 4 at Peterson Gym in Decatur.

The festivities began with a pep rally where students from both Decatur High and Middle schools gathered to cheer on their team. Then it was on to the introduction of the colors day court. As each colors day maid and her escort paraded in front of the student body, a short biography on each was read by high school principal Toby Conrad. Once the introductions of the crown and basketball bearers and their escort were complete, it was time for the games to begin.

The games began with six two-person teams playing a modified version of musical chairs using floor dollies. It came down to the eighth graders versus the 10th graders. The two teams collided at mid court and it was the team of Kelvin Mareno and Tafari James that took the contest. In the next contest, four members of each class wrapped their teacher-sponsor in a continuous string of toilet paper. The first class to finish the task won the contest, and the junior class and its sponsor, Elaine Christman, that won the contest. A hula hoop passing contest was held, with the object being to pass the hoop from one end to the other without breaking the chain of students. This contest was ultimately won by the junior class.

John Unger, head basketball coach, introduced each member of his 2015-16 senior boys' basketball team. He was followed by Jeff Melton, girls' basketball coach, who also introduced each member of his team.

The colors day king and queen were named between the first and second games of the tournament. The 2015 colors day queen honor went to Brandy Martinez. The king went to Alex Morrow.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs were eliminated from the tournament with a loss to Eureka Springs ending the colors day event.
