GRAVETTE -- After six and a half years of service, a Gravette resident has been selected for commissioning in the United States Navy. Meagan Morrison, 26, is currently serving at Chambers Air Field in Norfolk, Va., as aninterior communications electrician petty officer third class.

Morrison recently received notification that she would be accepted into Officer Candidate School as a public affairs officer. She was one of three individuals chosen out of thousands who applied. Morrison will be attending OCS in Newport, R.I., starting Jan. 23, 2016. The program, which lasts 12 weeks, is meant to mold enlisted sailors and incoming civilians with a bachelor's degree or higher into commissioned officers.

Public affairs officers are responsible for all communications and serve as the liaison between the civilian media and the military to ensure the public knows of the force's roles, activities and work.

Morrison is a 2007 graduate of Gravette High School. She is the daughter of Natalie Morrison of Gravette and Doug Morrison of Rogers.
